Lovely shots- interesting stuff !- think it's probably lichen rather than moss.

Thanks DB! Used an extension tube in conjunction with macro lens and it got me some magnification.

Very interesting. What magnification are these shot at?

My lens can only do 1:1 magnification. Later on I found that other top tier lenses can do up to 5X. So after some research I got Kenko extension tube set. It has 12m, 20mm and 36mm tubes and each one gets higher magnification but loss of light is the trade-off. I used 20mm. There is a formula to calculate what magnification that becomes, but I don't recall it. Cheers!

Shooting with all 3 extension tubes gives x2 magnification on crop sensor body . Think higher mag shots of this subject might be good :)
I use 100mm more than I use mpe- 65 actually, definitely need both

Whilst my grey matter is (just) aware of such a beast lurking in there somewhere, I've always taken the easy way re checking a lens setup magnification - take a pic of a (steel) rule and compare the result with the sensor size :)

Thanks Phil! Good to know it wasn't a mistake to spend that dough!
