Is it possible to incorporate Parallax Scrolling into a New Smugmug site?

Hello, all!

I'm curious if anyone has developed a Parallax scrolling technique for Smugmug sites. I have not found any obvious Smugmug-Parallax sites through basic searches.

Thanks! I'd love to see what it looks like if anyone's got one!

Unfortunately, I don't believe that is possible without using JavaScript. You can do it this way instead, but the background doesn't slide properly like it does using a JavaScript parallax technique:

This would be a neat feature request for SmugMug though (a parallax photo content block).

Wow, interesting! One of my wedding ads has something like what you provided a link to. I was thinking it would be neat to do this on a page somewhere. Thanks for that link.

If you're using that code, you might want to change "background-size:100% 100%" to "background-size: cover" so that the background image doesn't get stretched out of shape on oddly-shaped screens.

Not quite parallax...
Hi, your code saved my site from a bland death reserved for boxy template hell. Not quite parallax, but close enough! A website about the Wachowskis needs to have an artistic edge, to say the least. THANKS for making my vision a reality.

Those links provide some really neat examples! Thanks for sharing! If you head on over to our Feature Request site you can let us know how much you guys want these features.

Most websites with parallax disable it on mobile devices since parallax requires a bit computing power than most phones have. Would you be OK with parallax disabled on mobile?

I was going to ask how far you were in development of this but you answered it with that last post. This kind of thing would be great for blog pages / home page. Kinda busy for galleries I'd think.

Yeah I would not use this for galleries - more like ABOUT page, HOMEPAGE or PORTFOLIO page - where you will have sections of your portfolio scrolling like PORTRAITS, LANDSCAPES, EVENTS etc.

Lets see what I can do with it.
