Custom Footer + Background image on Homepage

I'm trying to add a custom footer just with our contact details in, as per our old SM site.

I'm happy to either use an image, text or HTML content, but because I'm using a background image for the homepage its putting the footer at the top of the screen, just below the header. Its fine on all the other pages that have content.

Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance.

This doesn't make sense. What is the background image - an html block? And where did you place it?

let me try and clarify some more, if I add ANY content block to my existing homepage, it sits just below the header. I want it to sit at the bottom of the screen. Help please!

This is more clear for me, at least. Until you said this, I thought this was what you were seeing, in order of appearance:

    HEADER
    FOOTER
    BACKGROUND IMAGE

Since you can't really add anything below the footer, I couldn't follow what you were saying.

Now 2 questions: Are you having trouble seeing the actual location of the footer space?
You need to "find" the footer area, where you would drop the block, by moving the mouse down to the bottom of the page. Drag the block down down down, move it all about and look for the green bar that is the "drop spot". You may need to move the mouse to the far left or right, along the edge of the browser window itself, before the vertical green bar appears. They are tricky to find sometimes.

Or, 2, are you saying you want a lot of vertical blank space between your header and footer? That you want a large volume of vertical blank space in the body?

Thanks, apologies for not being clear. I physically cannot find the space to drop my chosen footer into, be it text or an image, there is nothing towards the bottom of the screen. The lowest block is just beneath the CSS, but any content I add to it sit at the top of the page.

A good example of the problem is if I switch on the Smugmug footer in the settings, it sits towards the top of the page, rather than the bottom, just on the homepage. On every other page it sits at the bottom, below the content.

In Custom mode, on your home page, do you have a block in the body? Put one there if you don't.
That might make it easier to see the footer. This is what I see on my page. Can you post a picture of what you see when in Customize mode?

I've tried adding a text box to the body, above the CSS box but it doesn't help.

Not sure if these are the screen shots you are after...

There are two scroll bars to scroll to the bottom, and your image shows only one. How about the outer browser scroll bar? See pink.

nope there is only one scroll bar (unless I make the browser window v small), I've checked on a couple of different browsers. If I add a photo content block to the homepage, I can place a text block ok and its sits below it, where I'd expect the footer to be. That still doesn't explain where my footer content block has gone to...

and its definitely possible as this chap has the background photo slide show for his homepage and the smugmug footer switched on, and sits in the bottom right of the screen. - http://www.michaelbonocore.com
