creating link from slideshow or title content?

Images can be given an "Action on Click." Is there some fundamental reason why this isn't available for a slideshow? I would like a user to be able to click on the slideshow (image or title) and navigate to the gallery from where the slideshow is drawn. This doesn't seem to be possible with the basic interface.

Any tricks to make this happen?
