Hi Wiren, is this hand held? Or was the AF put on some other point besides the peak? Reason I ask is that both this one and melting mirror version, I kind of felt that they could be sharper and I am trying to understand why. As soon as I see mountain, my eyes are first drawn to it, and peak is not as solid but area around reflection is. Thanks.

This isn't an AF issue.... I only use manual focus when I do landscapes. In this one, the focus was at the rim of ice, set at f20, not because I felt I needed that much dof, but because to get a long enough exposure for a good unblurred reflection, I had to use iso 100, f20, 4" with a .8ND and CPL.... I can see what you are saying... maybe I needed to put my focus point out a little further to gain a little more clarity on the mountain itself....

I guess i'm more concerned with..... does the image work in b/w.... do you look at it and say... "ugh, color would be better...." While the Mountain itself may not be so sharp as to see ski trails in the snow, I think it's sharp enough... I could add a mask layer and sharpen the mountain, but I was concerned with possible CA and Ghosting.

Is it possible that it doesn't look sharp enough due to the fact that the mountain and the sky are both bright and it decreases the contrast of the subject in the background.......?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for explanation Lee. It confirms what I thought where the center of the focus was.

The exposure is beautiful! The reflection is great. The leftover Jet stream I think is unfortunate. Black and White works.

Not claiming expert of either photography or human psychology, but very first thing anyone would notice here after reading title especially is the peak.....but your heart was set on reflection.

So one possible suggestion is to just turn the picture upside down. Normally reflection is bit soft and in bokeh and Moutain is the star, but the artist here wanted to focus on different aspect of the beautiful scene. It is not as crazy as it sounds as I have seen it been done here. Then it would be normal to accept as reflection is what to look at and Mountain is Bit soft. JMO.

You still owe me non-portrait version of Devil's backbone......if I recall correctly....it was you who posted it! Cheers!

It's the other side of the backbone... (tailbone headscratch.gifeek7.gif)... I have been waiting for a window in my schedule that fits a good moonrise/set that would look good... i'l be sure to post it when I am able....

    Cheers.
