Throttle Uploads?

My son hates it when I upload photos. Netflix grinds to a halt, online games get laggy, etc.
The default SmugMug uploader is pretty slick! Does anyone have any recommendations for how to throttle how much bandwidth I use uploading photos? (I use a Mac, Chrome mostly)

    Our Heroes typically are not asked how to throttle the uploads, but rather we're asked how to get better speeds for uploading. :) You may want to time uploading when other things like Netflix or games aren't going on, or try contacting your ISP directly to see what they might suggest, if the community here doesn't have any ideas.
