Hey everyone! So two weeks ago I went out with a friend for a session. This was my first proper session with a guy, ever. So was kind of posing him in some shots. Others it was just him strutting his stuff. All natural light with a reflector for some shots. This was shot with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 C&C welcome. Loved the look of the B&W conversions.

A little "flat to camera", and I don't like the flare here; doesn't add anything "artistic" and just washes out his face.

    2)
Not bad, although empty his pockets, and beware of crotch area feeling a little overemphasised

    3)
I like this one. I'd have shot wider aperture to try and kill the background, but it works as-is, too.

    4)
Love the wide comp and lighting on this but, again, a bit crotch-orientated

    5)
Great pose and expression. Pull him forward away from the background next time for less impact from what's behind.

    6)
Good expression, nice use of light from behind as a rimlight. Reflector has hit his hip more than his face, so the light is a bit low. Just twiddle the reflector more to put the light exactly where you want it. Helps to have an assistant :)

Thanks for the comments you two!

Diva: I can see what you mean about the crotch oriented. Also, the phone in his pocket ticked me off in post. Didnt even see it on the shoot, partially my fault. On the last photo. I purposefully feathered the reflector because the light was way to strong straight on. It also completely blinded him when it was head on. I tried the whole close your eyes and 1-2-3 trick. I should try a graduated filter in LR from the corner up, perhaps?
I have yet to have an assistant on a shoot(although after this shoot, the subject said if he ever needed an assistant to just call him, YAY!)

Nice work! For whatever reason I'm much more comfortable photographing men than women, so I know the feeling re: your first time. It's so different. I love 2 and 4, really great b/w conversion! His skin looks the tiniest bit green to me in 5, but that could be my display.

#2 is an incredibly awesome shot. It reminds of an old photograph from the 1950s/60s.

My only nit about these are the flare shots (1 & 6). I'm guessing you used the reflector on these? If you did, I would ditch it. You'll have enough light from the sun to have it backlit evenly.
