how to create folders inside gallery?

I want to create a dozen folders with different names inside this category so it's full of folders and not photos. The photos would then go into the folders. Is that possible? I have read the tutorials on gallery and folder management and they say you can click on the upper left to create a folder but I don't seem to have that option on this category.

This should be very simple but I'm afraid I can't figure it out without someone walking me through it (and please don't point me to the "heirarchy and folders" tutorial (http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/1228388-hierarchy-and-folders) - I've read that and it doesn't help me.

In the tree I see a gallery "blog photos fro..."
That needs to be a folder.
Then on the new folder page add in all the sub-folders in a folders box.

Highlight your name at the top and > create > folder
It'll act just like the legacy category and sub-cats with galleries in the sub-cats.

Thanks for the reply, Allen. That worked to create folders but now I have the opposite problem where I can't figure out how to upload to the folders. It's just giving me the option to create more folders!

Let me rethink a second. In the main folder add galleries not sub-folders then upload to each gallery.
Think of this main folder like a category on legacy, Add galleries and sub-cats (folders).

Well that worked. I think all the names - galleries and categories and folders - had me mixed up! Thanks for the help, Allen.

On the new top level folder add a "folders, galleries, pages" box instead of just a "galleries" box so if you
have "sub-cats" (sub-folders) and/or pages, all the pages, sub-folders and galleries will show. Or add
both a "folders" and "galleries" box.

What I do is add a "folders" and "galleries" box to every folder page. If one is empty it will not show to
visitors but it's there if needed. I do this in customize for "all folder" and it applies site wide by my
default. Also set "select from" to "current level".

The "folders, galleries, pages" box will show all these in one box another option. Especially if you have
    info type pages mixed in.

I'm trying to figure this out Allen, but can't quite wrap my head around it. Do you have a screen grab showing your set-up? Is it easier to use than the default?

I don't know if this will help, but...

Here's a screen grab from my "all folders" page. It contains a folders block and a galleries block.

Similar to legacy smug, a gallery is the bottom level of the hierarchy.
    • A folder can contain folders, pages, and galleries.
    • A gallery contains photos.
You can define galleries in a folder. Photos are still uploaded directly to galleries.

I don't have any examples on my site where galleries and folders are mixed on a page, but that's possible and may ( or may not) make sense on your site.

Another review of post one. :D It's just like creating a category in legacy except create a top level folder.
Go into the new folder, find it in the right side thumbs and double click it or in the left tree highlight it by clicking it.

Now when the new folder is opened nothing shows on the right.
Click "create" > folder. This will add a folder in the new top folder (category). These will be like legacy subcats. Repeat for the number of folders you need.

These folders in the one top level folder is where you'd add galleries.

They just don't name things the same in NewSmug, they just folders within folders with more levels if you want them.
    cat > sub-cat > gallery
    folder > folder > gallery

What Denise shows above is after you select a folder in the tree in Organize click "Done" upper right. This
will open the folder page. On the page you have to add blocks to show contents.

At the top click customize > customize site
Highligh "all folders" in right flyout
In flyout under +content tab click "navigation" to expand it.
    In the expanded drop
Drag both a "folders" and 'galleries" box out to the page till you see a long green outline and drop.
Easiest to start drag at breadcrumb and come down slowly so green box shows across page.
Of the two boxes you add visitors will not see an empty box. But as you go down levels the galleries box will fill.

Click wrench of each box and for "select from" set to "current content".

Thanks Allen. I followed the steps you listed (very well written, thanks for that) and think I have it figured out. I really appreciate your help.
