Marina Sand Dunes near Monterey, CA. Tried to go to Pebble beach but got turned back due to ongoing golf tournament. Oh well, had to capture weather like this somewhere, dunes would do, and couple at Point Lobos as well.

All criticism cherished!

Beautiful series. It's a body of work of which you can be justly proud.clap.gif

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

You did a nice job. Were you any where near Marina Dunes?

Thanks Tom!! Light made it possible and did not have to overly think anything, and focused on comp!

    First, Thanks!

Second, Yes, it was near Marina Dunes. As I mentioned Marina in intro, but didn't go too much in detail as I think people all over the world tune in and that info would be useless to them. If you need help in pin-pointing the location, let me know. It is not just one spot, you have to drift and chase light!

    Another photog from SJ! Yay!!

I especially like 7 and 8! It looks like I am there walking along. I really like the detail in 8. It looks like a neat place that is easily passed by.

Thanks kdog! Do you recall your post of wind panels in a storm from a while ago? I think that was the first time the value of weather sunk in, at least for me. Before that if it wasn't bright and clear, I thought conditions were poor. Have been chasing elements ever since! Keeping ISO low and experimenting with f-stops to find sharpest performance of the lens was lesson learned from your post of Golden gate bridge from Kirby Cove. I don't know how to find threads, but if you go read them, I asked the questions then, you gave the answers and I learned! I think you were at f-16, ISO-100 and it was mind blowing discovery for me that in pitch dark someone would have those setting but yielded results that I still hope to replicate someday! Thank you!bowdown.gif

Second, I am actually blown away by your observation! Unlike other places in CA, known for dunes, such as Oceano central coast, Mesquite and Eureka dunes towards death valley, Mojave preserve outside of Vegas, places where if you are there, you are only there for one reason, dunes! They are easy to spot and fit more classical definition of dunes. Here, even though the area is called "Marina Dunes Preserve" and there are incredibly beautiful dunes every where, spread over decent sized area, most people will and do walk right by because their eyes are looking for the beach, where they are headed. So yes, if one is not looking for them, it is easy to walk by them! Cheers!

Thanks Len! Much appreciated! Missed straightening the horizon on #3. I did however do my best to restraint myself on contrast.:D

I most like 8 and 15, which are both great as is. The latter two also seem like good places to keep returning in different light and sunset conditions. You got the composition nailed on both. The one with the surfer is good, too -- but feel like maybe need to see a little more beach perhaps?

Thanks Steve!! Surfers came ashore while I was composing and I liked the idea of using them for scale-ability and makes the scene real. Before the second guy came out, I was little further out, and saw his friend come out and got the shot below....bit more beach but they were further out....

You're welcome. Not only are you humble, but you are evidently a very quick study. Yes, the narrow aperture gave you the DOF you need, as shown particularly in shots 6-10. However you picked your focus point perfectly in those shots so that everything is in focus from the closest foreground to the furthest point on the horizon. Super job, and that was all your doing.

I think I may start calling you HumbleBum. deal.gif

This is my favorite of the bunch. You're right about the person adding scale, and the waves and sky are wonderful.
