Question about privacy setting on IE for viewing galleries

I have my website password protected. Some of my friends and family have a problem viewing my site until they change their internet privacy setting to "low". this isn't hard to do...but many of them don't know how to do it and think they just have the wrong password.

i usually have to tell them how to change the privacy setting...oh..once a month! LOL

so..my question is this...why does smugmug require the privacy setting to be on "low"?

and yes..it does this on IE and Firefox

thanks in advance

    Hi Julie,

So, I checked your site on IE6, security set to Medium and had no troubles logging in, and browsing galleries etc.

By any chance are you asking your visitors to go to a link other than what you gave above? Perhaps a website that you have forwarded to your SmugMug site?

I'm sorry but that's not going to do it either. Passwords by SmugMug are all contained within our security layer. So, you have to do one of two things:

    1) upgrade to pro, and use custom hostname:
    http://www.smugmug.com/help/professional-accounts
    http://www.smugmug.com/pro/

    2) tell your visitors to only go to your site by this address:

    http://growingmoons.smugmug.com

if they use this address, they'll be within the protective security of SmugMug and your gallery and site passwords will work fine.

More here in my SmugBlog (Don't Get Framed or Forwarded!)

    I hope this helps,

When you don't want to upgrade to a PRO account there's also the possebility to create a simple forward that doesn't mask your address. Simply meaning when your friends go to growingmoons.com the address in the browser addressbar will change to growingmoons.smugmug.com.
I assume you've got at least the cheapest economy plan from godaddy. If you've got no webspace at godaddy you'll need some with php-support or we'll have to look for another solution.

If you've got a webspace plan at godaddy do the following:
    1. disable the forward
    2. create a file named index.php in a editor with the following content:
    <?php header("Location: http://growingmoons.smugmug.com"); ?>

    3. upload this file with a ftp-client to the httpdocs-folder on your godaddy-account. (if you don't have a ftp-client, you can get one here)

If you've got any problems feel free to shot questions at me. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/mwink.gif" border="0" alt="" >

No problem - then we'll do this a bit slower. :):
First of all: Do you have a hosting plan (space to store a homepage on) or just a domain (your www-address) at godaddy?

EDIT: I had a closer look at the godaddy page. You probably don't need your own webspace. What kind of forwarding did you currently use which caused the problems: domain forwarding or domain masking? Just have a look at the page were you setup the forward to your smugmug address.

Okay, I think this should do the trick - nevermind all the other stuff I mentioned. We'll see what happens.

    it worked.

i just changed my domain from forward WITH masking to forward WITHOUT masking....and now i think it works. I have my privacy set to medium and it seems to be working just fine.

    thanks!
