Marmalade hoverfly Episyrphus balteatus - they've not all been blown away or drowned in the wonderful weather we are having at the moment.

Hi Brian, as always an incredible job.
I've been looking at your latest photos and it seems like you are geeting an extra magnification, or are the bugs just growing? :-)

    all the best,

Great as always! Do you shoot some with normal lens and some with extension tubes? Meaning when you get closer to the subject is it with MPE-65 just moving back and forth or are you using something else in conjunction with it. Thanks.

Excellent work Brian! I wish there was an MPE for Nikon...

Thanks all for the comments appreciated :)

Silvio - I'm using and MPE-65 lens which can shoot from 1:1 to 5:1 magnification. I suspect I have just been doing a few more high mag shots of the hoverflies.

Kevin - yes there is no easy to use solution for a Nikon - you can of course get to high mags using reversed lenses or diopters and/or ext tubes.

Yeah, doing that in a more controlled fashion is next on my list. I have a damaged macro 55/2.8 that I want to try out reversed in front of 30mm of tube and a good quality 3.0 diopter. The lens has an excellent flat field, but it's nothing like the MPE65.
