sidebar customization question

I'm a newbie here on here on this forum (just register moments ago). I've been looking to move my current site to a slicker option which doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I found the new Smugmug to be very nice. I'm still playing around with the tools so my site is pretty raw at this point. I'm starting to settle into a design but have a few questions.
These two sites have a slight modified sidebar in they some how have moved the whole thing over 30 or 40px. Is this a customization? CSS/HTML? Or am I just missing the spot where I can do this?

I assume the previous two are just variations on the theme.
