Unknown object taking space.

NewSmug NOT unveiled
I have a 17px vertical space across the whole page that's making it impossible to get my
menu up closer to my banner.

This is what "inspect element" shows

What is this and how can I get rid of it or make it take no vertical space?

It's on all pages using this banner/single photo.

I've temporary removed the gap with a negative margin, not a "technically correct" method.

My question still stands, "why a no content div taking page space"?
