simple way to add custom logo?

It seems like this should be simple to do, but I can't find an easy way to replace the default text logo with an image logo. In the customization pop-up box for the logo, I can ADD an image above or next to the text logo by choosing a public image in the gallery. But, I don't see a simple way to REPLACE the text logo with an image.

I suppose you can probably add extra CSS that hides the text logo and used the image logo (hosted elsewhere) as a background, but it seems there should be a simpler way to accomplish this.

Can you not edit your existing logo, clear out the text in the text tab of the Logo content element and add an image on the image tab?

I used this method to add the logo, but when I do "preview" or say done, it goes back to default text :-(

    What could be wrong?

Is the image in a public or unlisted gallery? It can't be in a private gallery and I don't believe it can be password protected.

    Have you tried publish?

Yes the image is in a public unrestricted gallery, and the image does not have any password protection.

Yes I have tried Preview and publish now - same result - will not accept image :-(
