Those à-la Brian stereograms are still a mistery to me. But they're cool.
Tried on a different flower head Brian- but was unsure which way to align them - first photo is with position of "photo a" and "photo b" in the frame, the second one is with "photo b2 (2nd one I took) and "photo a" in the frame.
I assume the best way is to go with the left hand image being the left hand one in the 3D too? (seems easiest for me to see the effect).

Yup that works - first one is a cross-eye stereogram with the photo positions reversed from when they were taken.
2nd one is a parallel stereogram with the photos in the same position as they were taken. You have to stare throught them to get a stereo.
There is some software stereophotomaker (freeware) which can help properly align the images.

Not seeing any stereo in the cross -eye though are the 2 pictures actually different ?

Yes you need to move the camera sideways between shots about 1/30th of the subject distance.
