Sharpening not working for Lightroom galleries

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this (or uses it)?

If I create a Gallery via Lightroom, and set a custom Amount under sharpening, it does not apply.

I checked via the SM web interface, and the settings it reports for these galleries are exactly as I set them via LR, but any photo uploaded has identical amount of sharpening, regardless the setting for the gallery it is uploaded to. If I create the gallery first via the SM web interface, then upload photos to those galleries via LR, the sharpening is applied correctly.

As an example, I created three galleries via LR with sharpness Amount set to 0.2 (default), 1.0 and 3.0 respectively. (NB: The SM documentation states that 0.2 should work for most instances, but people may want to add/subtract 0.1/0.2 as preferred - so going to 1.0 and especially 3.0 should be more than noticeable!)

Then I created 3 other galleries directly via the SM web interface.

I synched the LR plugin (so that the galleries created in SM showed) and then uploaded a single photo from LR to all 6 galleries. Results are below.

Galleries created via LR:
http://smcdowell.smugmug.com/organize/Lightroom-Sharp02/i-kpBWbpB
http://smcdowell.smugmug.com/organize/Lightroom-Sharp10/i-QxxSxJC
http://smcdowell.smugmug.com/organize/Lightroom-Sharp30/i-vpXfr36

Galleries created via SM web interface:
http://smcdowell.smugmug.com/organize/Sharp2Web/i-nffXzQ3
http://smcdowell.smugmug.com/organize/Sharp10Web/i-wpwb9Fs
http://smcdowell.smugmug.com/organize/Sharp30Web/i-tDSqwwg

If you open each of the above in a new tab, you can see that the photos in the galleries created via LR are identical sharpness-wise, and the ones created via SM show significant difference. Yet the galleries have sharpness Amount set to 0.2, 1.0 and 3.0 for each three. This is using LR 5.3 and SmugMug LR plugin 2.0.8.0.

Anyone else experienced this?

Sam
regards,
Sam

    G'day Sam,

I found an issue where the LR default values for "Threshold" and "Sigma" were reversed.

It will be fixed in the next release.

    Cheers,

Brilliant thanks David. I can see that now that you have pointed it out!

Do you think that is what is causing the above behaviour? (Just asking as the issue seems to be 'Amount' rather than Sigma/Threshold, but understand that maybe those being reversed would have an impact that may make it look as though Amount is not working.

Anyway - apart from anything else, its nice to know I am (hopefully) not imagining things.

    Sam,

Potentially, it should be pretty simple to test though. Just set up two galleries with those values set differently, upload the same files to both galleries and compare.

I've just released version 2.1.0.0, that resolves this issue.

    Cheers,

Yep, tested that and it seems to be the issue. I also created a gallery from within FB using the old plugin, but with those values reversed (or 'normal') and it seems to work. Cheers David! I will get 2.1.0.0 downloaded right now.

Also - I mentioned this via email to some of your colleagues, but galleries that are listed as Private (created either through FB or through the web interface) with images then uploaded from FB via the plugin do not appear. A placeholder for the photo (with a ? in the middle) appears, but no photo. As soon as you change the privacy to either Unlisted or Public (either via FB or the web interface) the photos become visible. Not sure if you have seen this, but I can replicate it 100% of the time. Also not sure if my emails to your colleagues resulted in a 'bug' being raised, so thought I would throw it in here.... Shout out if you have any questions.

I should also add - having used a number of FB plugins, the SM one is by far the most reliable and feature rich. Great job. So please don't reflect on these little 'issues' negatively!
