Been raining here in Southern California the last couple days but I ventured out yesterday to see if the clouds would break enough to get some shots in and test out my new tripod snow feet.

Here is one from just after the sun dipped below the horizon. Was anticipating more dramatic color but it just never materialized. I do like the moody feel of it though. Would love to hear what you all think.

I have learned to love Grey! Its only my opinion, but since light gets blocked, there of course can not be any color or very little of it. However, since areas of high contrast exist, mono-chrome becomes a natural option and this shot may look better that way. At least worth a try I think. Only thing IMHO that is not working is the horizon getting chopped off on the right, and fence and the people on top right.

Now if those people are adding to the scene in some spiritual way or contemplating suicide, then you can leave them alone! rolleyes1.gif

    Stumble...

I do plan on converting this to B&W. I had the same thought that this lends itself well to it.

I'm not sure I feel the same about the horizon though. Couldn't do anything about that anyway since I was already and the highest point I could get.

OH... and those are people. They're palm trees. :D

I like the soft tones of color and motion in the water. I am not a big fan of removing things from an image, unless it is a larg distraction, so the palm trees do no distract my attention. Rather they add a little intrest such as maybe it is a couple enjoying the sunset together. Any way it is a very nice image and I too would like to see it in black and white.

Thanks TG3. Yeah, I avoid cloning stuff out too but my reason are motivated by pure laziness. rolleyes1.gif

I will do the conversion tonight and post it up. deal.gif

    B&W - I think I prefer the color version.

Color version is very pleasing, but, B&W.... clap.gifclapclap.gif

Cloning is NOT a crime... Although I do understand the attraction, challenge, and mastery of purism - I just don't subscibe to it.
I remove detritus all the time - but, logically, a viewer would never know the difference. deal.gif

I don't know they both look great. I think though i would have to go with the b&w.

My favorite is the color. In the black and white version, the rocks are just rocks. In the color version, they're vibrate organisms, living out their lives in grand stature, with reds, browns and purples. The water also has some fabulous mellowed green (in the frothy area).

Grey days are my favorite days. Even colors need a restful day off, but if you look for them, you can see them, all relaxed and chill.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no purist. Consider that I come from the portaiture world where healing and cloning is par for the course. I'm just lazy and don't want to spend a lot of time in front of my computer. Unless some thing really distracts from the image, I leave it in.

BTW, I still prefer the color version.

I too prefer the color. Thanks for commenting.
