Just for fun...
One of the aspects of photography that I'm curious about and interested in, is when optical distortion works and why.
I often spend processing time correcting for barrel distortion and converging verticals, etc., and comments in the forum
often reflect a preference for distortion correction - especially in architectural compositions. So, I'd be interested to hear
what y'all think about when distortion works and why (or conversely, when/why it doesn't) and please post your work/examples if you like!
TIA - Eric

Ding, ding, ding... we have a winner!
Now, quit goofing around Cristóbal, and go find me some good Distortion!
Naw, no worries Don, I'm chill... after all, this is Dgrin - it's usually somewhat out-of-focus.

rofl I love it Cristóbal... thanks!
A big toothy grin is what I'm seein'...
I'm not sure the distortion here "works" other than to allow squeezing all the folks in the picture.
I can envision an image like this where the subjects might be doing something more exotic...
like a dance ritual or similar.
Thanks for playing along Taz!
I will now have to think of situations where distortion works.......
I have taken pictures in part of some ladies with wide-angle and that stretches them....makes them taller and thinner.....and they seemed to be pleased.
Hey guys, long time no see... I was fed up with the trash talk at DPR so I decided to come here and look at some friendly faces. Distortion you say? Call me king of distortion ;^) Personally I love distortion and when I get the 16mm fisheye out, it is for the distortion not getting more of the scene in(well sometime I do). I also have a 14mm which is great for car pic with way less distortion than the 16mm.
Here are a couple of car pics from the 14mm. It may not look like it but I'm pretty close to those cars.
Now a couple of car pics from the 16mm.
And to finish it off, a couple + 1 of church pics from the 16mm.
All pics taken with a Nikon D800E + Samyang 14mm + Zenitar 16mm
See you later... I'm off to start a new "Fruity" thread.:s85
