Watermark Sizing

Howdy all,

I couldn't find an answer to this one already, and it might be really stupid, but I am having a lot of issues with finding the right way to scale my watermarks.

I created a watermark against an existing image in Photoshop, and it was perfectly sized. Nice and compact and hi-res in the bottom right corner. I uploaded that watermark image to my site, and set it as a watermark in the bottom right. I set the smallest image size to XLarge (still smaller than the image I tested it on before uploading), but when I apply the watermark in my gallery it gets scaled up massively! Instead of a relatively subtle image in the bottom-right, I have this huge, low-res, watermark image that takes up about 20% of the picture.

Am I missing something? Is there a scaling option somewhere, or do I have to create the image at a certain size to start with to ensure a nice, clean watermark. Maybe I am doing something wrong in the actual watermark settings area?

Here's an example of how it looks now - Spitfire . When I created it, it was about 10% of this size, all nicely positioned in the bottom-right.

Thanks very much for any help,
Cheers, James

Scratch that, I think I've nailed it. I managed to dig up a reference to it somewhere.

My problem was that I was creating my watermark (PNG with transparency) to the exact size that I wanted it, for example 300px x 50px and it was getting scaled up waaaaay too much. I then tried to create one on a 1000px x 1000px canvas, with the watermark (still small) in the bottom-right corner of that ... and it seems to have worked.

I still don't really know why it works like that, but it did!

Hey Orias....I have a similar issue w my watermark as well s maybe u can help me out! I also created a .png for mine but no matter what size i choose in settings (thumb, s, m, etc.). it covers the entire photo sample! I like the way LR5 creates my watermark & how u move a slider from l to r which increases the size accordingly as well as starting points such as top left, bottom right, etc.! Is this a quick fix on my own since i'm not too savvy with this sorry? I want it to be as your sample is in as far as size is concerned.....thank u i n advance!

How do I get a watermark to show on every image in every gallery, regardless of image size, but not on thumbnails? Most of my galleries contain roughly 5:4 images, and yet only some are showing WMs, but I have a gallery of very wide aspect panoramas, and I cannot get the WM to show on any of them, although it shows on their thumbnails. I've tried limiting the "smallest size" from "thumb" all the way up to "Xlarge", but it doesn't have any effect. Isn't there some way to simply tell the software to apply & show the WM on everything other than thumbs?

Go to "Account Settings" > "Business" > "Watermarks" > "Manage"
If you have more than one watermark, choose the one you want to change the settings to and click on the wrench icon
I suspect you have "Smallest size" set to something rather large and so Smugmug is not applying the watermark to any sizes smaller than that.
Click "Done" and I think that may fix your issue.
My opinion does not necessarily make it true. What you do with my opinion is entirely up to you.
