Logo looks muddy

Greetings!

I created a custom logo in Pixelmator - looks great as the JPEG that I uploaded, but when I choose it as a logo it looks terrible - muddy and smeared. I am guessing this has something to do with the scaling - any tips on how I can get my logo in looking clean?

Not sure if I can help, but a link to your site would help. Put it in your signature line and make it clickable would help too.

I put my site link in my signature, but I think I fixed it. I re-did the logo and exported to PNG. It looks cleaner, not sure if I got lucky or if the file type is the difference maker. Any additional tips are always welcome ;-)
