Off camera flash portraits

Hello all. I'd like to share some off camera flash shots. For this image of my mom, I used a small soft box on a boom at camera right and I metered for the sunset to get the exposure and put my camera in manual and the camera did the rest to balance the flash. I use the Nikon SB 900 on all of these photos.

I used nearly the same set up for this exposure. It was just a soft box on a tripod and a minus one exposure for the background and a plus one exposure for the flash to balance that out.

Here is a fun/goof off shot that I took with my friend Roger. This was taken with a shoot through umbrella and one SB 900 flash unit

Yes, very nice. I especially love the first one of your Mom and the sunset and The Kiss. Both just wonderful. I also appreciate your camera and lighting setup info.

Some real nice images. I like the lighting balance you achieved in shots 2 and 3. Maybe could have moved away from the gate on those two. I like the kiss shot as well

Thanks for the advice. However I chose to leave the gate in the background for ruggedness (for lack of a better word) and use it for background elements. I just thought it added that extra element instead of leaves, I feel it adds a masculine touch....sort of.

"The Kiss" and the windowlight portrait are both really beautiful; all shots speak to great control over your lighting. Top notch work thumb.gif
