A few from my trip up the California Coast

Wife and I drove up to visit her sister in Northern California this past weekend. We decided to take the coast instead of the boring drive up Interstate 5. Here are a few shots from the trip.

First stop was Montana de Oro or "Mountain of Gold" in English. First time there and man, this place is absolutely beautiful. We spent about 2 hours just sitting on the beach, relaxing. I didn't plan on shooting since it was close to midday but I just couldn't resist. Plan to go back to this place for a weekend to get more shots during sunrise and sunset.

We made it up to Pfeiffer Beach for sunset. It was pretty blah. We had visited this beach once, about 7 years ago and it's not what I remembered. Its well known for that one giant rock with the arch but this time of year the sun doesn't line up with the arch so I decided to walk down the beach a bit to see what I could find. Took a few shots looking back on the main section of beach.

And finally, here are a few shots from my day with Joel (Kdog). It was pretty foggy so nothing great but I still thought I'd share.

I'm not sure why there haven't been more comments on these, but I like them. The texture and light on the rocks in the first is great, but the sky is a little bright (mid day curse I suppose). The fog is a standard feature of the coast, but it holds its own allure (to me at least).

Thanks. The first two were shot almost at midday so not much I could do. Definitely a place I plan on going back to during better light.
I also like the fog I just don't know that our location was the best to take full advantage of it.

Sorry Ian. Had no clue you'd be interested in shooting with the likes of me. We do visit the bay area 3 or 4 times a year so I will definitely hit you up next time.

I'm going to stray-away from orthodoxy here and say that #1-2 (I prefer the landscape orientation) are very well done...
I think that mid-day images often get an undeserved bad-rap - especially when they succeed in composition, exposure, etc., like these do.
The fact is, we don't see the world only during Blue and Golden Hours... and I won't say that I'm bored with images captured at those times...
But, how many sunset pictures does the world need? ne_nau.gif
So, I'm often drawn to a well-done daytime image, because I know that it's a bit harder to pull-off. thumb.gif
