Remember Me

I'm wondering if it is just me, or does the remember me option not work sometimes? I have to login more time on the new site than I did on the old site.

Hi there! The 'Remember me' setting relies on browser cookies. If the cookie is deleted for whatever reason, the web browser will no longer "remember" your login credentials.

I have to enter my password regularly and it has been commented on many many times in the forum. As for my account settings, even with remember me selected, I ALWAYS have to enter it again and it has nothing to do with clearing cookies.

To clarify, "remember me" helps with keeping you logged in for longer periods of time. However, you'll still be asked to "verify login" at times, especially when trying to access secure parts of the site, like the account settings.

Also note that "remember me" will NOT autofill any of the login / verify login fields if you have to log in again. That's only something offered by save password features in the browser or through separate browser extensions.

I am asked every day to fill in details when accessing my account settings.

I am asked every day to fill in details when accessing my account settings.

This is by design; account settings has extra protection to avoid someone stealing your logged-in session (or using a computer that you had left logged in to SmugMug) and using it to access your Account Settings, which include private data like billing data (addresses and partial CC numbers) and the ability to hijack your account by changing your email address.

EDIT: If SmugMug stored this extra "yes, I'm really me" confirmation per client IP address, and you happen to be using an ISP that does bizarre things like route your requests through a different random proxy for every request (like AOL), you would be asked to confirm just about every time you open it.

Thanks Lamah - I realise that. I was pointing out that Sebastian's "at times", is actually every time!

Well, for me I somehow only get that Account Settings login prompt about once every few weeks, so I'm not sure what the conditions are.

Well, I get it every time I go to Account Settings. Might as well remove the "remember me" option if it doesn't actually ALWAYS remember me.

Do you close your browser regularly? Try leaving it open instead - that should allow you to use the account settings over a longer period of time without being asked to verify your login each day.

The "remember me" feature really only applies to none secure pages, like when you browse your site so you'll not have to completely log in each time you closed your browser and opened it back up.

This issue has hit me again. I cannot say exactly when, but within the past week to two weeks, every morning that I go to my site, I ALWAYS have to log in.

Anyone else found the same thing?

What irritates me (apart from the issue itself), is that with me visiting the homepage to login, it makes a mockery of the stats as the homepage has a selection of images that get counted towards visits if I am not logged in.

AperturePlus, image views are no longer separated into "logged on" and "visitor" views, they're all lumped together now, so you can no longer distinguish those anyway. You can see the announcement about that there:

The one positive is that your browser probably has most of your photos cached already, so you won't need to load those again and create more image views.

AperturePlus, when you log in a cookie is created so it will keep you logged in for a period of time. Some browsers are set
to clear things like cookies, cache when closed. I also think if you're "private" browsing none of this is saved.

    Thanks thenickdude. Good to know.

Allen I have not changed anything to do with cookies form their default in Firefox and am not private browsing. I have a feeling that it might have to do with a private passworded gallery that was created about two weeks ago. I went into cookies and cleared that one so will see in the next day or two.

    Thanks for the help
