Is it possible to create a slideshow of text instead of images?

Hi all,

I'm interested in creating a small slideshow of testimonials I've received that will cycle through at the bottom of my "about" page. I know that I could simply create images of the text and put them in as a slideshow, but I'm concerned that the scaling for smaller screens could make that difficult to read. I'd rather have the text stay the same size, and adapt to the screen size dynamically as it does on normal text fields (by word-wrapping to create a greater number of shorter lines).

So, is there some way to create a slideshow, but to have it bring up different blocks of text rather than different images?

Thanks in advance!

Have you looked into making a Marquee?

No, I haven't. I imagine there are probably ways to make it look nicer, but from what I found with a quick look it seems that's more for scrolling text . . . I'm interested in showing a full block of text for a specified period, then fading into another full block of text, and cycling through. Can that be done with a marquee?

Hmm. That is still a slider of images. Not sure how it's going to be any different than using the built-in slideshow with images of the text?

I don't think there is any Smug slideshow that you can set the timing.

There is a way to change the photo everytime the page is refreshed/reloaded.

headscratch.gif Now I'm really confused. The built-in SmugMug slideshow allows you to set the time to display each image, as well as the transition time.

Don't think so on NewSmug, you're still on legacy.

Edit: You're right, found it in the slideshow widget.

I haven't unveiled yet, but I'm designing on the new SM in the background . . . and my slider has all kinds of options. Maybe it depends on which theme you're using? I'm using "Smokey."

    So . . . no then?
I'm a bit surprised you want a slideshow of text. This wouldn't allow your viewers to peruse the text at their own reading speed. If I see text that moves in any way (a marquee, slideshow, whatever) I usually just move on to another page or more likely another site. Do you think your viewers will be happy reading text presented as a slideshow?

...and yes, I know, I may be alone in my reaction to moving text. Feel free to ignore my comment if you disagree.

I will be using this to display testimonials from satisfied customers on the page that describes the services I proved. I don't want anything scrolling or "moving" so much as I want a quote to be there for several seconds, then fade away and show another one. A slow slideshow of testimonials to complement the description . . . I've seen it done very effectively elsewhere.

Could you then create an animated GIF of quotes? GIF's are supported.

No, the whole point of my question was to see if I could do this in a way that would scale well for large/small screens. Since text size stays the same when you adjust your screen, I thought it would be great to use text instead of images. If I'm going to do a slideshow of images made of the text, I'll just use the built-in slideshow, which works quite well.
