I like the original picture as well, don't consider the painting to be "the end product" -- just a "different product".
While the painting is what it is -- the photo is a snapshot at a family event and has all the sentimental value that such snapshots have. The girl ( my daughter ), the dog, the setting -- all of it preserve a moment in time.
Fantstic look....The painting has the feel of an "OLD" Olin Mills Portrait.....back when I was a kid Olin Mills was not the assembly line it is today (the studios that are still open) (today OM has no better quality than Saears or Walmart IMHO)....I have portrait that was done of me 45 yrs aga and it still looks almost brand new......a colorized b/w.............
I like the pained portrait look and if you had taken the snap and then showed the painted to a prospective customer (if subject hadn't been your daughter) sales would soar.....
