Thanks for the memory also! We have stayed in that place, the unit downstairs, straight in front of the camera POV..... If that's the one in Pacific Grove, near Monterey. :-)
Good conversion, Eric. The B&W gives me a really spooky feeling. Otherwise, for me it would be just a snapshot of a motel.
Lauren
Thanks, but you're very right Lauren - it's pretty much just a snapshot of the motel... I just couldn't resist (pun intended) the Star Trek visual-joke. :giggle
Illogical? That sounds like T'Pol. Don't get your space babes confused.
Space Babes... hmmm... with my luck, I would yield to '7 of 9', and the collective would pull a last-second switch-a-roo and stick me with the Borg Queen... :s85
This would be fun with some of your post processing skills I think, maybe some tonemapping to make it look more stark and surreal.
Thanks for the idea JC - I love experimenting like that, so I'll poke-around and try to make it more Borg-ish.
btw... I'm either chagrined or proud (can't decide which - depends on the day) to say that I don't have any tone-mapping,
or HDR software - I don't Tweet or Facebook either - guess I'm a bit of a Luddite... that, or just lazy.
the B/w suits the scene - that's for sure. Seems a bit more contrast could do? I just now noticed the man sitting in the chair. Dunno.... for some reason I'm humming Hotel California... you can never leave...
My wife LOVES that song... a classic for sure!
Thanks for looking in AnnaMaria... really appreciate the feedback!
I do my conversions in LR5 and the histogram shows black clipping in the shadow/doorway areas,
so, on my screen it looks pretty contrasty. Sounds like we may have a different appearance on our
respective monitors. For me, this image is actually rather mundane and more of a visual-joke that
gave me an excuse to be silly and hopefully make some Dgrinners giggle... giggling is good for us!

I looked on my super duper retina display and looks much better. Still - wonder if mid tones in the whites could be brought down. You may have intended to be a fun shot but it is really nice! And yes, doing something wild and crazy with it would be awesome too!

No local contrast enhancement plugin for any of your software?
How about an embossing layer, added back in in some % and some increased contrast?

I'm late coming to the party on this posting. At the risk of exposing some massive character flaw, I admit that the tie-in, in the original picture, to some fictional character or story line went right over my head. Apparently, in days gone by, I wasn't reading the right stuff or not going to the right movies. I had no clue who this " Borg " was and consequently the intended humor of the shot was lost on me. As a result, the first image didn't hold my attention too long. Obviously, many of you are much better informed than I am and got a real chuckle from Eric's intended levity.
Then comes this colored version. WOW....what a transformation!!! This shot has tremendous appeal and stands alone on it's artistic merits. The change in PP work created a whole new interpretation and level of appreciation for me. The single open door, the man and his wine..... are just a couple of the elements that take on an enhanced role in creating a sense of mystery.
I really like this second version.
Tom
I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.
Hmmm...dunno Eric, your fiddling was nice enough but it doesn't really say Borg to me. I sent you a stab I made at it in Photoshop. Feel free to post it if you like. It relies on edge filters, curves and blending modes, but I have no idea whether those are available in Elements.

Well my friend... First, I'm glad you like the color, whacky, version - it's all just for a bit of fun.
Second, to use a time-honored social dichotomy; There's two types of people in the world - Trekkies (Star Trek fans) - and Tribbles (everyone else).
So, no problem if Star Trek never caught your eye... and it is certainly not a character flaw, of any magnitude!
Trekkies are notorious for fanatical devotion and being somewhat nerdy... but not me.
In fact, the only character flaw I can detect in you, is your failure to post additional images from Daytona Bike Week... you know, the ones without mannequins.
Just kidding of course!
Thanks for checking-in!
Best, Eric

You bet I'll post it... it's out-of-this-world cool!!
I had something like this in mind too - I love a reason to use glowing edges - but, I went on the grunge tangent.
Elements has many filters and blending modes, layers, etc. Hours and hours of possibilities.
Thanks for all the fun stuff Richard - if nothing else, we may get Tom to Google *Borg* - and then be assimilated.

Hm... okay, obscure reference - this is the Romulan Brainwashing version of Geordi's VISOR view.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Jean-Luc!
That's the place!
He he he.... Swedish... I know, right? - it sounds like something the the Muppet's Swedish Chef says all the time.
Nicely seen, Eric.
Exactly! If only Borgs had a marketing strategy......there would be pushing and shoving going on in the 'assimilation-lane' to get ahead!

Silly! Also very "illogical"!!
Thanks Richard!

Ok, you two...
Just for fun, here's the results of noodling-around in PS Elements for about an hour while my dinner finished scorching in the BBQ...
Thanks (to all) for making it a fun thread!!
Cheers!
Hey...he has a glass of wine with a sunburned head! But the building does pop! There is so many fun things with this!wink

I can agree with your observation WillCAD... damn those pesky Vulcan wannabees.
