Have some friends in town from Oahu so I took them up the Central Coast. Weather was pretty terrible for most of the trip but we managed to have fun. Here are a few landscape shots I grabbed during the trip. I did what I could with the gloomy weather. :dunno

Thanks Taz. I wish the weather would have been better. It started raining a bit hard just as I took shot #3. I would have loved to have had more time at that location. There are tons more compositions to be had there. Will definitely be going back. Maybe Joel, you and I can meet up there one day. It's in San Luis Obispo so right about middle of the way between us.

BTW, these are the first real shots I take with my D800. I'm pretty blown away by it.

Not too shabby for crappy weather, Alex. Pics one through four appear to have been taken back in the Paleozoic Era.

Hi, I really like the warmth of the rock in the foreground of #1 considering it looked such a bleak day. And I think the owners of the house in the last one would like a copy of your shot :D

    Cheers, Richard.

Yeah... that place is really cool. There is probably about 1/4 mile of rock formations similar to the shot in number 1. Unfortunately, it started to rain so I couldn't really explore much more than the first sets of them.

I am pretty serious about meeting up with you guys there. Maybe we can camp overnight, shoot sunset the first day and sunrise the next. Maybe some night shots in between. We can chat about later.
These are amazing shots. I love the 3rd and 6th image. Well done.

Thanks a bunch for the nice comments. Number 6, the spot is so picturesque. That house is amazing BTW.

Haha... Maybe I can Google Earth the address and send them a postcard of it. thumb.gif

Here is another shot that I took of Morro Rock. As you well know, this Rock is well photographed but I was hoping to get it from a different angle... something I didn't see while doing Google Image searches. Unfortunately, the weather was just too hazing and blah for most of the vantage points I tried but this one is not too bad. This was taken in the morning, just have sunrise. I kind of like the faint layers and the monochromatic look of it. And the hideous smoke stacks don't look too bad.

I like the subtle colors you can bring out of the cloudy day (most notably in the water) in 1,3, and 5, although I'd wish for a slightly less bright sky in 3. 5 is just kind of awesome, with all the little details in the shot. Did you consider the Morro rock as a panorama with the bottom 2/3 of the water (with the kelp beds) cut off?

Thanks. I do like your idea of the crop on the last shot.
