Is there a way to dictate the gallery style of search results?

I've been browsing the sites posted in the Show Us Your New SM thread. On one I noticed an interesting difference. I clicked the search menu, it opened the keyword cloud some folks use. When I then clicked a word, it opened the images in the Journal style. The galleries on the site seem to be in landscape collage.
When I do a search by keyword, I get a tight grid of square images.
On his site I used the cloud, and the page uses the breadcrumb feature. On mine I used the little search window, which remains on the page, and there's no breadcrumb. I'm guessing there's an inherent difference in how they work, cloud vs search window, which results in a different look? Has anyone sorted out how to effect the look of search results?

Unfortunately the search results page does not comply - it uses a grid and I don't believe we can change the style. I'm pretty sure there was a thread about that somewhere but I can't seem to locate it right now.

If I type "/keyword/rex" I get my default, chosen gallery style.
Interesting. That's about it. I'm not sure where I'm going with this... just thought it was interesting...
As for the style, I don't know how to change it from the default gallery style.

I recall not knowing what the default gallery style would be for my site (Turbo theme) - I think I didn't know. But it wasn't the SM style, I remember that.
Anyway, systematically I changed most galleries to SM style which is my preference.
Then suddenly there was a revision to the entire Customization structure, wherein now if I click Customize/Gallery style at the top, it is the first one, SM style, that has in parens: (default). That had not been there until some change was made.
[An aside: It's a bit annoying that that dropdown list of styles does not have some notation indicating which style the gallery you are in, is set to. To my eye there is just a list of choices, so if I'm unclear what I have it set to, I can't tell by that list. This is true even if the gallery is set to, e.g., Journal, that in the dropdown list the SM style is still set to default.]
Tying these all together:
- I would like the keyword results to also be in SM style, which it is not,
- because: that was not my original Turbo choice style (which I didn't understand the implications of when I chose it, for this issue)
- And yet NOW it appears the SM style IS the default - but not really otherwise the keywords would be in SM style
- So if anyone has code that will revert keywords to SM style please share.
Perhaps this sets all default to SM style? You can then set individual pages to other styles.

I hesitate to make that change Allen because I worry that would loose or alter significant customization. Isn't that like changing themes completely?
Yes, what I see there is "copy of Turbo".
Why then in the list of gallery styles does it say "SM default"...
