These are beautiful, Aaron. I particularly like the second one. Fine work.

Love #2 and #4! I am guessing these were taken at dusk? Love the blue with hint of magenta in second one in the sky, and love the black and white shot due to great mix of light and shadow! Just awesome!thumb.gifclap

I find the Grand Canyon (and also Bryce Canyon), to be very challenging to come away with an image that even starts to touch the grandeur there. I don't think I'm alone either. Most all shots I see of it look as if it's, we'll, 2D. Very few convey much depth through the image.

#2 does a pretty good job of imparting some depth to the canyon. For that you should be commended!

    Good job thumb.gif

Yeah, and it's exceedingly difficult to take an image that doesn't look like a thousand we've seen before. But the second one in particular looks fresh to me.

So glad you said that! Whew! If Grand Canyon is tough, you should try Yosemite. I have been there literally hundreds of times and barely have few keepers, mostly for memories. This place is so beautiful that you are literally moved to tears. Yet, getting it right is so difficult that I am not even trying. Most of it is just me, but I did say to myself, that this place is impossible to take pictures in.

Actually the first two were dawn and sunrise. The BW was at sunset from a completely different location.
    Thanks for the comments. :D

I agree that these 'Grand' locations are difficult to shoot, they just do not lend themselves to wide photos. This is in part due to the complex formations and endless overlap of ridges and cliffs as well as the fact the sky is often challenging in these parts. Soft light with nice clouds is not something that happens very often in the SW.

New comps is something I am always trying to accomplish. In order to do this I seek out less traveled locations or if in a park go beyond the viewpoints. The locations of these images are a good distance from the tourist areas of the Grand Canyon. deal.gif
