Hunter, you seem to have really nailed the use of flash for your birds. Can you fill us in on how you do it? Are you using manual flash or TTL? Off-camera or on, etc.

Actually no flash in these shots, that's natural light. I haven't been using flash much at all since getting the D5100. On my D80 I did but not all the time. When I did it was my Sigma EF 610 DG Super with a flash extender. It did work pretty well. With the D5100 I can't set it up to shoot faster than 200 sec, with the D80 I could.

I thought the D80 would only synch to 1/200. No? I've actually thought about picking up an old D70, which could synch to 1/500 for just this purpose.

For auto settings yes 200 is all you going to get with a D80. I would have to look back and see how I set it up but I could use fill flash at any speed. You should be able to do the same with your D300 I think.
