Why? Because many months ago, she bought tickets for us to go and see The Golden Dragon Acrobats at the New Victory Theater in NYC :lol3 What a thrill. I still have chills, thrills and goosebumps. This was an all-out, eye-popping, heart-stopping thrill ride for me, Andywife and son. The things these men and women can do, boggles the mind, and makes you :scratch.

Of course, for a day on the town, I had my camera. All of these are with Canon 5D, ISO 1600, f/1.8 on Canon's 85 f/1.8.

They juggled volley balls..

They practically rode this thing out into the audience..
49377480-L.jpg

The jumped through hoops to entertain us :lol3
49378108-L.jpg

The highlight, no doubt, was this fellow. He made a tower of chairs. These are just wooden chairs, end-on-end - there are no bolts, nails, supports, or other "stuff" to keep these chairs together - just stacked, inversely, that's all. And so he started:

Higher and higher he went. Until he asked the audience: "One more? :evil"
49377404-L.jpg

His pit crew obliged:

And as this amazing acrobat decided he could go not "just one more" but THREE more chairs, to the rafters.. I caught my son, this should tell you how high the chairs are (sorry for the oof shot :lol3):

And the finale:

Enjoy (acrobat) photography,

Really good, Andy. I had to look at #1 and #3 twice to figure out that you didn't have some kind of double exposure thing going on.
    If not now, when?

    Amazing acrobats and wonderful shots.
Sigh.. I really need to venture out from this small town.

Looks like your son was having a good time too. Next thing you know he'll be trying that chair trick. Look out!

Andy, fabulous shots. Reminds me greatly of Cirque Du Soleil, which is by far my absolute most favorite show to see live.

One question, did you have any problems bringing your camera in with you? At Cirque shows I don't believe they allow cameras in or used, though that may just be no flash photography, which that monster lens would definitely help offset.

Last time I saw a good old chair stacking like that it was in the movie Poltergeist. Looks like a good time out. How close did you sit to the stage? (I was trying to figure it out through the angle of your son's gaze)

    Hi Matt,

No, no probs bringing the camera in. It's wintertime here in NY, so I had an overcoat. Had the 5D tucked in a pocket, and the 85 f/1.8 in another pocket. This is not the monster 85, you're thinking of the 85 f/1.2L - that's the monster - the 1.8 is actually quite small and light thumb.gif

Thanks for the very kind words!

Row H, right side... the guy was seriously "up there!" It literally took your breath away when he then does a one-handed spinning handstand :uhoh

    Thanks!

Great shots Andy!! ISO 1600 rocks!!

I just watched a women escorted out of the Circe du Soliel in Florida for her little Point & Shoot. I REALLY wished I could have shot it - they had a very similar routine with chair stacking and a group of Chinese Acrobats also.
