Keywords not syncing to Aperture

Hi there,
I'm currently trying to hack together a workflow which will ultimately allow me to see my clients favorites in Aperture.
Here is what i'm trying (if you can suggest an easier way to do this, other than switching to LR, please let me know)
1. Upload gallery using Smugin plugin for Aperture (no keywords used)
2. Create event and send link to client
3. Client picks favorites
4. Client tells me they have finished picking their favorites
5. I browse to clients favorites folder and add the keyword "favorite" to their pictures in bulk
6. Check the original gallery to ensure appropriate photos have been updated with the keyword
7. Resync the gallery with Aperture to pull in keywords from SM
8. Create a smart gallery in Aperture which filters on the "favorite" keyword.
in my test so far, i upload 12 pictures and favorite 7 of them.
So far, everything is working except that the keyword only successfully syncs back SM -> aperture 3 pictures of the 7 favorites. For the remaining 4 favorites, they have their keyword overwritten by aperture, in other words are syncing Aperture -> SM
Edit: I just tried adding the keyword to all 12 pictures i uploaded. When i sync in Aperture, it pulls through keywords from SM->Aperture for the first 7 pictures (if sorted by ascending filename). The remaining 5 are synced from Aperture->SM. It does this every time.
Anyone know whats going on here??
