Ok Wife is going to Church tonite.......during that time I'm gonna wander round town for some shots.
Old small town(Founded in 1790)......looking to get some Church stained glass at night and the like.
Shooting with my 10D and a 28-90mm f4-f5.6 mostly.
Any tips I should know as far as settings and the like?
(Taking my Bogen Monster Tripod and my remote cable)
Sounds like a silly question but I haven't done much night time photography with the 10D yet. Stuff I have done had a lotta light flair and such.
I guess this time I'll shoot everything in RAW.
I wanna get some more sellers for the ole portfolio!
TIA
MERRY CHRISTMAS

ISO-800-1600 and ya definitely want to take the cable, and tripod. slows shutter-speeds should be the key.
however, thats all just from my experience.
so don't listen to the 14 yr. old.

I generally go with a slower shutter speed cuz of noise.
Nothing past ISO 400....but like I said I'm relatively new with this 10D and night shots.

Use ISO 100. Tripod. Cable release. Manual exposure. Raw. I try to underexpose a snidge.

SUPER!
THANX Andy I was hoping you'd chime in!:D
You having MUCH experiance would be the best person for advise!:D
Now do I need anything special to convert my RAW files to JPG after they are edited?
Also is there a setting on a 10D for sharpness or is adjusting with USM common with digitals?

Thanx for the info Mike.
My plan is pics in strict darkness other than street lights....which I hope to avoid them influencing my shots as much as possible.
Not exactly sure what you mean by partial metering?
Will be my 1st time shooting strictly with RAW so I hope I don't screw it up.:uhoh

Think spot metering with a large spot (9.5% of the viewfinder I think).

I'll remember that!

does Cable Release mean Bulb? sorry. this just isn't a term i've run into yet.
smugmug: www.StandOutphoto.smugmug.com
I know 14 year olds that take better photos then people that are using markIIs and quantum flashes and spending over 5 grand in equipment.
advice is advice, even if you're 14, people will appreciate it.
Setup: One camera, one lens, and one roll of film.
A cable release is a device that is used to operate the shutter without touching the camera. It's usually connected via a cable to the camera (bottom left side of the 20D, not sure about other cameras) but there are wireless ones too. Prevents shaking a lot.
You can of course do a shot on bulb with a cable release and many of them have timers that will allow you to get hours long shots.
