I was out again today at the farm in Shawnee looking for birds. This guy flew right up to the tree next to me and stayed for about 5 minutes. I had to back off the Bigma to 417mm to get him in the frame. I know the out OOF branches on the right are a little distracting but I can live with that. The detail is awesome. Tell me what you think.

Great shot Duane. The details are excellent. If you increased your f-stop it may decrease the DOF enough on those branches on the right to make them less distracting, although they really aren't that bad.

Arthur Morris (www.birdsasart.com) recommends shooting wide open ( high f-stop) as often as possible. This allows a faster shutter speed (less subject movement), and keeps only the subject in focus. Of course you may need to lower your f-stop if you desire a greater DOF.
