While visiting some friends in Sanford, we had a nice family of cranes stroll through the backyard! All of these images are straight out of the camera...super excited about this 7D! The full gallery can be seen here: http://jonabethrussell.smugmug.com/WildLIFE/20140519-Sandhill-Cranes

Thanks, Hunter! #4 was my favorite also. They were actually gently bumping their heads together in that frame, but all during an eating session.

If it matters, these were all shot with a 7D + Canon 75-300mm f/4 without IS. I was pretty proud of holding the thing steady enough to get crisp images. lol

Those are fairly young Sandhills. The eye color of a Sandhill Crane changes from
yellow to red as they age. I live on a golf course just few miles from Wekiva Springs.
This one was photographed in my front yard. While they are impressive birds size-wise,
they are not good neighbors. Their raucous calling starts long before I intend to wake.

That's a very interesting factoid, thanks!

I actually like their bellowing / honking calls. They sounds like a really cool trumpeting to announce the entrance of a royal pre-historic bird. lol Nice capture, btw.
