Drops, Drops, Drops...

Up here in Canada, drops are bloody expensive.

Off grey patchy drop at Henrys, for 200$, open box. (instead of 250$). 10' x 24'

Now, alternatively, I priced out the material, and for 9' x 24', it would be about 40$, but the material isn't dyed yet.

Thoughts? I want some fabric to work with in my "studio" but I'd rather not pay out the arse for it.

Anyone had good experience making drops? Or does anyone have a particularly good supplier?

I hear of a supplier of drops in new york that are super light, and all you need is a few clips to hold them up, no fancy stands...

Without further ado, HIT me!

Do a search and you'll find a thread (maybe second or third page of
    this forum).

The short answer is that you can find a variety of different materials to
serve your need. For the short term, try renting. That way you won't
need to buy too many of them.

Adromada (sp?) has a and for 10x24 foot for USD$89. Not a bad deal but
I have no idea of the quality.

Check your area's stores (like WalMart - not sure what you guys have up there) for normal king or queen size bed sheets.

Hey, they're not as nice, and they're mostly plain... but for the amateur, it works good enough for most things =). I just bought three for like $10/ea. You might have to iron them or something, but can't beat the price for the amount of material you get; and it's already hemmed. I put mine in my basement and stapled them to the ceiling beams.

Seamless backdrop paper is $89 here at Photography West. I love it.

"Or does anyone have a particularly good supplier?"

http://stores.ebay.com/ProPhotoStuff Ships to Canada ... often has "buy-it-now" backdrops for outstanding prices ... ships VERY fast ... brother-in-law and I have never had a problem. Also sells outstanding value portable "starter" or "basic" complete studio strobe kits for the beginner or semi-frequent portrait shooter.
