Like it a lot but the out of focus areas drives my eyes crazy. At least on my monitor.

Very nice capture. I bet this would make a great BW too.

Nice job - you even got "the prop"!! I STRUGGLED with that in the two baby shoots I've done. Especially the second one, where the baby was fusssyyyyyy and mama absolutely refused to turn the heat up any higher. :-/

    Thanks all.

Hack...I know the shallow DOF is personal. I kind of like it for this one.

Michael... Yeah, I actually converted it too. Looks great.

Diva...Do you know the secret to getting them propped up like that?

Here are a couple more from this set. I still have a few more keepers I need to edit. Although I removed some crusties and larger blemishes from the skin on both, I evened out the skin tone on #2 just a bit where I didn't touch that on #3. This is where I struggle with these baby shots. I don't know if I should remove some of the blotchiness or leave it. I personally don't have a preference. What do you guys say?

There's a few different ways I've read of doing it (boppy pillows, wedges, hot room, mom/dad under the blanket, multiple exposures composited....). What was yours, cuz it sure looks great! :)

I think a lot of folks "expect" the perfect-creamy-skin thing these days, even though so many baby photographers go waayyyy over the top (IMO). I think you can afford to go further with these, however. Creamy baby skin is pretty awesome thumb.gif

I used the composite of secret. One shot holding babies head from up top, another from below. Then blended in Shop. Still a bit difficult, although it probably gets easier with practice.

As far as the skin... yeah, I tried to look at baby photos but so many are waaaaaaaay over done. I suspect the fauxtogs in the baby genre are numerous.

I will go for a bit more evenness in the skin. See how I like it. Thanks for the help. thumb.gif

I like having normal skin. Some editing is done but I tend to like a more natural look. Especially the dry skin... I clean up when overwhelming but I dont take away completely. Stuff like this shows how young the baby is.

That's how I feel about it. I tried again to even the skin tone but I don't like it as much. There is something about the babies untouched skin that just looks perfect, blotchiness and all. I will leave it up to the mom. If she asks, I will enhance a bit.

These are so, so adorable. I especially like the first one you posted; and I agree, the natural look rocks!
