Nice. I like the spot lighting of the musicians in #1, while the silhouettes of the patrons give it context. I don't think the second one works as well, as the people seem secondary.

You're slipping, Jack. In the first shot, the lady on thr far right has busted you.

#1 is my choice here. Nice concept and execution.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Thanks guys. The first is my favorite for those reasons as well.

Ha! You're right Tom. The thing that struck me about the second one was the prominence of the photos of famous jazz artists over the bar and the ordinariness of the folks at the bar who were in fact the owner and his family.

Yup, #1 is a wonderful shot - nice work in such low-light.
Though, I would suggest a closer crop on the performers - I find them, and the scene
and objects behind and around them, more interesting than the ceiling, and the tableware in the foreground.

Thanks eric. I see your point, and agree that that would have been an interesting shot, but this was not about the performers per se. I wanted to capture the ambiance of a little jazz cafe in San Juan. I particularly wanted to show the couple eating and the two illuminated images on the wall above them.

I love low-light photographs and your #1 is really excellent. Was this shot with a really fast lens, given the detail and lack of grain? Thanks.

Thank you Mayfly. The image was shot with a Nikon D700 using a Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 lens at 24mm. Settings were f/4.5 1/30 iso 6400
