SM account question

Yes, I'm a Dgrin beginner.
I've had a smugmug Basic Account for years with thousands of family photos and galleries. I'm starting a photography business and want to start with a Portfolio account. I have a few questions:
- Can I import the Basic account into the Portfolio account later if I want? If not, should I upgrade the Basic account to Portfolio at the beginning?
- What's the best way to keep the family stuff out of view from the commercial customers
I'd like to set up the Portfolio account from scratch, get comfortable with it and then (once I've mastered the pages/folders/galleries) find a way to import the personal galleries in a stealthy way.
Any thoughts?

If you're asking if you can combine the two accounts later you will need the help desk to move the photos from one account to the other for you.
You can password-protect your family galleries, or you can use share groups. If you don't want your commercial customers to see any indication that family galleries exist then share groups is probably the right approach - or you could continue to maintain a basic account for your family photos.
See help page at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93261-can-i-share-multiple-unlisted-galleries-with-one-link-sharegroups-.
