This was take a few days ago while on our first pregnancy shoot. It was a free shoot by the photographer because I was helping her with some things. While we were getting ready to head to our second location, i quick had my wife do a pose and did a few quick tuning to the camera, and shot. Here are my thoughts on over exposure. I know as a rule you do not want to over expose things, ESPECIALLY faces, but i also know there is a fine medium here. I of course did not hit that in this shot, BUT, i did manage to make her glow, which is what i was trying to do. So, i would like to know is there any other way to get that affect WITHOUT, using lights and all that?
Congratulations on upcoming baby. If you want the glow without lights, one thing you can do is shoot to where she is backlit. This shot suffers from shadows around her eyes. If you shoot from the opposite side, her hair will be backlit and have a nice rimlight, or glow. She will not have shadows on her face around her eyes. You will need to get in spot metering and expose for her face since it is in shadow. The pic will have a cool temp since it's in shadow so you will have to warm it.
The result will be a warm glow around her due to being backlit and without harsh shadows under eyes.

Are there any other helpful critiques anyone would like to offer up? I am trying to get more thoughtful with portraits.
