Dusk shots

On Christmas day my spousie requested a trip to the Pacific. It's actually not as bad as it sounds, since the beaches of Malibu are only 20 miles away from our place.
During the day it was all sunny and warm around us, but by the time we got out it was already 4 pm and the beaches were under heavy overcast (as usual at this time of year). I still took a few shots before it got really dark.

Then, just out of curiosity, I decided to try my newest toy, 580EX, and to my amazement, it really turned the things around.

While it was already dark, I managed top get some decently lighted shots of a rater large (30 ft tall) rock formations from a great distance (100 ft away), and some of them showed interesting effect.

I guess from now on I'll be paying more attention to the "on-board" flash units:-)

Here are a few pictures:

Since the last time I was here (it's El Matador beach) waves eroded it dramatically:

None of these passages was visible:

It was getting dark, but 580EX did a great job:

This picture was taken in a total dusk from more than 100 ft away:

Enjoy flash-supported outdoor shooting!
