So I had a point and shoot camera that we used to take T-Ball pictures that wasn't getting the job done. So we went out and bought a Nikon just so that we could get a better zoom.

After I got the camera I really like the way some of the pictures turned out. I love taking pictures of unsuspecting people. The emotion seems much more authentic.

Looking for feedback. To be honest, I don't know what to look for in a good picture. To me, they look nice, but looking for a deeper review. I want to improve.

Thoughts?

what to look for in a picture:

    1) good composition (how the subject is framed wrt to background)
    2) good posing of subject (how the subject is posed)
    3) quality of light (is the light soft and directional? are there objectionable shadows?)
    4) good technique and processing (is the image/subject properly exposed, did you hit focus on the eyes? is the background blurred if appropriate, does it have pleasing white balance, sharpening, contrast, color saturation, etc)
    5) the "IT" factor (is there some energy or mood that the image captures?)

So of your images 3) is your strongest imo. That one has great energy and the composition is pleasing! The processing is not that great though. #2 comes in 2nd (though you could increase exposure quite bit) and the rest are throwaways from good photography POV. Take #1 for example..the harsh light from the mid day sun is casting large distracting harsh shadows all over the boys face and body..that by itself is "ruins" the shot. The same shot in the shade and that wouldn't be an issue anymore
