I just got back last night from a 10 day trip to Oahu. Its kind of becoming a home away from home for us. We have friends that live there, some old and some new, so we're lucky that we get toured around by locals. Didn't do much hiking this time, friend just had knee surgery, but we did get out to some beautiful beaches.

Will share more but here is a sunrise shot from Lanikai Beach I took on our first full day there. Lanikai is on the east side of the island.

Beautiful and peaceful scene. You're lucky to be able to get to Hawaii as often as you do. Been there only once myself. I remember that hat-like little island. One of those (I think it was farther to the south) was in the opening credits of the classic Gilligan's Island TV show.

Thanks David. Jen & I talk more and more about moving there. We love it. The island you're talking about is called "Chinamen's Hat". It's on the North side. I actually got photos of it I'll share. This island is one of two that are side by side that are referred to as "The Mokes". I don't recall their real names. The other island is just to the right just behind the brush you see there. I lost a pair of brand new flip flops on one of them last trip. We kayaked out to them with a few too many beers in an ice chest. The beers and my flip flops never made it back. Laughing.gif

Fact: There is an old warehouse, which used to be a TV studio, somewhere just north and behind Diamondback, where both Magnum PI and Gilligan's was filmed. That's what the tour guide told us as we drove by it. That's also how I knew of the little island scene in the credits; located east of the Halona Blowhole.

No more room man. I was right up against the property line of the house that fronts that section of the beach. I barely had enough room to fit between the wall and my tripod. This was the widest lens I have. ne_nau.gif

They also had one behind Diamond Head. rolleyes1.gif
