Please would someone tell me how this has happened...

I do a reverse-search from time to time on my images and this one has me stumped..

This is an image of mine in one of my galleries that I reverse searched.

This is the reverse search link: https://www.google.com/search?tbs=sbi:AMhZZitzavPuIoNvhdbYs4SNe3Hb7ijsOrp_1rK-GF6BlqfmXviclUHKMOfzwXeSpYP6QUI9j0IdTXRQRXLqMQAxqGwzV6Jht2XfmNNjb3_1G-OEYIqIaNK6SkI15icrjwY7ZTpaYsx4odDuOOxeMMsUGh6UVJQ85qX_1N_1FvPexF1aesK2Gg9vwY6RnnmmyheHgYtMOsCkgJ86Wjz1HAHwJjRw5aB6HePePr4C4S2JoYzwKjOUDQiEKBjfQAycGJoZf5SIhcuw0zg9JJ7tyYb2hWQ32-VDxyajIfmmx8wVkf50os_18BVujSGqHVQmJMHB5VLbFUKiVn9owAfkl1obz6JSQywSxKp2Nqra406riWgHycfYYm2ArM0fBfLtZSBrS3bgA-8R9Ip424XJ6PK_1_1D0-1SSBvfH4CmR3a2ibWxtONuJue8yGVPD7ySQxvyHiecppwrbrmxHwiDyom0qZexHRutzltttR3br6VyXMNmaw9weUkcLpAFktnvrgcwKF7BZfzvQXsnGugGiyLpuHxYwDTSqkF22lyca0jPFjWLUlcQ9bLIEY0GLKCXI7Xa8GCh_19Bo5SPaFTy1-aVMbMya4Xb4NaL0URej5XodiE8N5LbT9BD2p5YG3g0E4QU0tFJLpoJjN39-TjD1gbS5udVcLmhmkae886BBFetd9pT7CwmXuPTYona4BD5akLEKuJlHOK1tZRKXDYCTZAcv4nCoVtuEPmjyuPEpc3M-FV53ZtDGnEQuHdrFzEjv355E2_1swqC9kAM_1dAn7-KsHbRxqtUOe9vRbMea5C1RQiM0V2BSKqV81cJrPs4w6Bi94Esb9vdMhXP-y8e4m55CL0rx-dG-AYWPAaDsEmbK7yE2T9-astxAYJogeSvfiBfch0B7aV5ZwMH-GV7if7BS2pHvWr8rp5chkRCG7s65eqJ0T5impQC1eQ9RGtWyq30DOyORuV8sTtdYEhBkMZRz16U6iHegrzH54axhYkJ3dkSpEDymiXVqtZeGCgSZegxq8hinSKQA946-d87iE6AR46UcyOS1hE4L1Et1BRryL42nn5pfOry6tKazeidzs2LtHgdrsVMSZ_1MT7ojdXYbR2Z2w2LP97wTRL-3qFlsWBM6Y29ZdqbwNUvMmsBNxwclF61ekGxZjQnO9zrH47FXLZXrA02mjk3FczPX8b3AKH6GJqZPngEvJHQwnucT9haxiQ_1g_1Flixnfo0Ns2NYYrD-1IgDuZONAsnOUWwG4-FYe3AZTfQsfc-eN480xJ72PLM3mfhccpsiXu-rTLrQCfwNZ1m4qa32h_14mAvzlMZdfb3k9e7okhkv3hsFv2rjnP7FdOwpMiUX_1tb9FskWjvnQsrQ6MNFe8kgh1mvW2bcJR4gbAsGsuNxFQa1kTK3KaJMTFzXIPOw7CDJmMwK9cAvmu58fIN_1Bb5qIHxc9i8ktcBWluPZywCytwH_1ydODEoPhKhDl3uVJLYSQ5D_1J4H&btnG=Search%20by%20image

Google throws back that this image is hosted on Ethan Winning's site, which is a Smugmug site. Ethan's images are wonderful and I know that mine is not on his!

How did this happen?

Thanks for reading
Clive

There is something odd going on overall. If I do a search on google for my site using site:, then look at image results, there are a couple of images returned in that search that are not on my site. In fact the first two images shown as a result of the search aren't on my site. This shouldn't be possible.

There was a short discussion about this issue recently but I can't locate it right now.

    Hi Clive,
The photo doesn't show when I access the /keyword/snake link showing in Google. However, hovering over the thumbnail on the left of the link, it shows your url as the photo source. Also, clicking on it, the "full size image" link goes to your site as well.

Unless the other user had the photo collected to his site at some point in the past, I can only imagine that the search result an error on Google's end. You can try filing a removal request for that at Google as clearly the photo they show in the search results does not come up for the url they've indexed it for.

Here's the previous discussion on this issue:

    http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=248048

I'm pretty sure this happened during the migration to Cloudflare, since it was noticed just after that occurred. I imagine what happened is that there was a brief interval during migration where the keyword page didn't recognise the domain name properly, so it ended up falling back to doing a SmugMug-wide keyword search, like this one:

    http://www.smugmug.com/keyword/snake

So when Google indexed that /snake keyword page on Ethan Winning's site, it saw your photo amongst the listings, since it was actually seeing the SmugMug-wide search results. Currently though, there is no issue with the Google-cached version of that page, so I think they've reindexed the site since then.
