Security settings - is this the best way to do it?

I'm re-organizing my site and I want to create a site that contains both public and private photos. I'm thinking of something like this on the front page

My idea here is to create different sections with different types of galleries. I do this by using folders and then add different galleries blocks that point to these folders. This works just fine and looks exactly as I want. Now I want to add private stuff where it's necessary to log in. In other words I want to give some people a password and by logging in they should see the first section - otherwise this shouldn't be visible at all.

I've played around a bit and come up with the following solution that *seem* to work, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something or not. My question is simply: is this a good solution or are there some obvious flaws in how I solved this?

The private section is implemented as another folder, this folder has password set and the galleries inside inherit this setting. Then I add a menu item which points to this folder.

As I said, this *seem* to work - the section isn't displayed until I log in, and when I'm logged in the private section is displayed. However, this seemed way too easy so now I'm wondering if I've missed something :wink :wink

I think you're on the right track :) If you want to make a private section of your site that's available only after entering a password, the easiest way to do that would be to put those private galleries in a password-protected folder, and then you could simply create a menu button that points to that folder. Your visitors would be prompted for the password upon clicking that link, and after entering the password, they'd be able to access any public galleries within that folder. Do note that after you enter the folder password, that password is cookied in your browser, which will give you access to that passworded folder for a short period of time, without having to enter the password again.
