I received a spam/scam email this morning - the typical *send me money* type - with all kinds of references to Dgrin in the name and text.
It claimed to come from the Dgrin site, from a Dgin user, etc. etc. I did not (would never) click the many included links.

Did anyone else get this?

Was it an email or a PM? We banned a Nigerian Scam type spammer earlier today. AFAIK, he managed to send seven PMs before he was reported and banned. This is the first I've heard of email, though. Any registered user can send email via Dgrin to another member (if that member has chosen to accept email), but the recipient's email address is not known to the sender unless the recipient sends an email response.

It was email... the claimed user name anth1 - I searched Dgrin for this term and got zero results.

Yes, that was the guy we banned. Banned usernames do not show up in search.

I don't think anyone here is going to fall for his little scam. Frankly I'm surprised that people are still attempting this sort of obvious fraud.

I got the PM this morning and reported it. Glad to see he/it is gone.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Heck, there are even memes poking fun at these scams. Yet, in my day job, I see dozens of these every day. The reason is pretty simple: it costs the scammer almost nothing to send millions of Emails. And he only needs one pigeon to go for it.

I remember a woman coming to my office and asking for someone to come and help her right away-it was urgent. Since we had a lot going on, I walked over and discovered an almost endless stream of porn pop-ups. She said "it just started happening". That might have worked for the first time. But this was the second. By the time I'd left, she still hadn't learned not to click on embedded links...
