Patterns in the sand during a stormy Sunset

While walking along the causeway at the great salt lake, I saw this interesting pattern of sand, due to low winds (which happen often in this area) We've had quite a bit of sandstorms this summer due to the Great Salt Lake drying up. :( I fear a sandy future for Northern Utah.

Anyway, I thought the patterns were neat and used a GND filter for the sky to enhance the deep colors already there.

East of the scene was a bit of lightning, which I always seem to miss, so I gave up and retreated back to my car as soon as the wind picked up.

Glad you were able to capture this. Love the swatches of greenery at the bottom and also how the light foreground and light sky balance each other out. The lines in the ground lead the eye into the middle top of the comp where the action is. Using a grad was a wise choice. What is the object in the middle left of the scene? Maybe could use additional contrast to make it pop more?

That's a huge tree stump, that's been there for years and years....in fact I have no idea how many years the stump has been there. And I tried to go with a little more contrast, but it took away from the light of the storm and the over-all image. Thanks for considering more contrast (on the stump?).

Pretty as always! Sky is hot and and cold! Ground is bright and dark! Stump is competing for attention....maybe it can go! Cheers!

I was going for more contrast on the entire image mostly to bring the clouds out more and wasn't thinking of the object I now know is a stump. In fact, the less emphasis on that stump, the better.

LIKE! Very much. Looks like a watercolor painting.
