Collage Landscape Gallery Fixed Row Height?

Hi Everyone.. new to smugmug and this forum. Love the Landscape Collage Gallery. My question is this: is there a way to fix the row height with CSS? Some rows are considerably shorter than others meaning my images are smaller on these rows. I'd like to have some consistency with the images being relatively the same size, and hoping that fixing the row height will help me achieve this. Thanks for any help.

Do you have a link to your site?

I would add your site to your signature line, and make sure you use the "http://".

    Hi TripleB,

By design the collage themes are set to fit the images together. You do have some options to play around with that might make the look more to your liking. Be sure to check out both landscape and portrait collage, don't let the name fool you, depending on your images the portrait collage may work better.

Then, you can also tweak the style. To do this click Customize > Customize Site. Then, hover over the photos and click the wrench as seen here:

Choose your style and change the settings until you see what you like, you can also turn off "vary photo height" too. :) :

And, as Mike said a link to your site and the gallery will help, too as we will be better able to see what you have and what you might want to change.

Thx for response Phyxius.. I have already configured using the built in tools as you pointed out, to my liking. The specific issue I'm having is that the row heights seem to be a bit random. I understand that it fits the images, but inexplicably some rows are much shorter than others.

For example, I'll have some rows that will fit only 2-3 images (regardless of the orientation/size of my image) and they'll appear nice & large, while others rows will cram in 4-5 images.

Here is an example.. assuming this shows up in your browser the same (I'm using chrome):

Notice in the second row how short the row is compared to the top and third row, effectively reducing the size of my images in that row.

Maybe instead of fixed height I could do a minimum height, or a min & max?

I looked at it using Chrome and it looked the same. I have a feeling that's the way its supposed to look. Can you post a screen print?

I'm using Firefox right now, and I don't see anything wrong.

I viewed it in firefox and it is the same as chrome.. there isn't anything "wrong" ... but the row heights are inconsistent, making many of my images much smaller than others.. the height of row 2 is 30% to even 50% shorter than other rows.. if you look close you'll see what I mean.

If you scroll down to row 7 where you see 2 images in that row, you'll see the contrast i'm referring to.. it's decided to only put 2 images in that row making them very large.. those images are 2x1 format.. just above in row 6 there are also 2 images that are 2x1 format, but it squeezed in another image, and that row is shorter, and the 2x1 images are smaller as a result.. I'm hoping to be able to get some consistency with the row heights so that the images are (relatively) the same size.

Can anyone suggest some code to create a min/max row height? Is this possible?

You can actually see what I'm talking about, and hoping to remedy in the example as well posted by Phyxius.. see the image of the paved walkway in Row 1? Then see it again as the first image in row 2? There is a considerable size difference in row 2, because it crammed in 6 images, where it looks like only 4 in row 1

Again, I know it's made to fit the images within the given content blocks but it seems a little inconsistent with squeezing in images in some places and not others, making the rows smaller. Maybe there is no way around it, but I'd like to find out if there is. All of my images are commercial sizes, 3x2, 4x3, 2x1 etc., and i'd like there to be consistency so they have equal opportunity to be seen by the viewers.

    Triple B,

The collage will dynamically size based on your browser size. The images in the gallery you linked vary greatly in size ratio. Some are rather square some are panoramic. You have the ability to set an image size, which you currently have set to medium, that can control a bit of how it looks but with such differences in sizes we will try our best to fit the images together with their size being as similar as possible. You can try arranging the images differently, you may like the results better that way.

To show what I mean about the browser size please see the differences here:

I'm not aware of CSS to "fix" the row height, but will ask a customizer to look. Basically what you're asking for is a grid height with varying widths rather than a collage. If you're looking at this for a specific set of photos using a page with the multiple photos block may be a solution, if the row height can't be a fixed size.

OK.. thank you.. yes, if you could ask a customizer about the row heights that would be great. Like I mentioned, maybe a minimum/maximum row height? Thinking that would still allow the system the flexibility it needs to work?

I have been manually rearranging to achieve what I'm looking for but it's extremely tedious and doesn't quite give me what I want. I can live with it the way it is, but appreciate you looking into a solution. Thanks.

The only way I was seeing to to adjust those rows was distorting the images. IE the image would stay the same width but the height would be halved. Outside of that I couldn't find a good way to do what you are looking for.
