Failed to load resource 500 Internal Server Error

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error). Getting these across, not just mine, but multiple smugmug websites. Refreshing causes the site to load images at random. I've seen a thread today for similar issues, but not with a 500 internal error.
