#2 is great, Aaron. #1 is a case where B&W doesn't work very well. It's so busy that it needs colors to differentiate the elements. Again, 2 is great though, as it's got clear lines and focal point. Not sure which way that's facing, but I'd love to align polaris over that big hoodoo if possible and grab some star trails.

Joel- thanks for taking the time to comment. In the 2nd you are looking SE so star trails do not work in this shot. There are other formations that could work for star trails. At this point though with temps in the single digits we were not willing to venture too far from the fire for too long. These formations are actually lit with both moonlight and the fire we had going.

#2 is a contest winner.

I think #1 would be excellent too except the clouds do not offer enough contrast. I think a clear dark sky and it would look great, IMO.
